Grow Tent

With spring coming around the corner it’s time to start considering what strains you might want to grow this season. At The Altered Nation we always encourage our clientele to grow their own stone and in fact now that cannabis is legal tons are taking the initiative on their own. Our staff are all knowledgeable about our vast array of products and have the no how to help you get the most out of your harvest. So, in this blog I’m going to help address where to start and a few things we’re going to address are:

  • Seeds (buying and germination)
  • Indoor/Outdoor and Hydroponics
  • Grow Nutrients
  • Bloom Nutrients

Seeds:

Buying cannabis seeds can be overwhelming as there are so many options out there to choose from. Factors that should come into play when choosing the right strain are the time of year in which you start the seeds and how long they take to finish, the yield, your growing experience as some plants require more care than others and most importantly picking a strain that you think you’ll enjoy. A lot of the customers we talk to like to choose a sativa and an indica strain as sativa’s are said to be enjoyed more in the day time and indicas at night.

When looking for seeds this season make sure you check out www.cbdnseed.com. This site provides a great deal of information about each strain for example: background information, yield, flowering period, it will also tell you if it’s an auto-flower, indica or sativa dominant plant.

Once you’ve purchased your seeds you’ll want to germinate them. There are several different tried and true methods for this, one that we often suggest is using starter plugs or rockwool cubes or even just leaving the seed in a dark place in a glass of water over night. You can find several different ways to do this online, or ask any of our staff here for assistance.

Planning Your Grow Indoor/Outdoor/Hydro:

Once you’ve got your seeds it’s time to start putting some planning into your grow. Things to take into consideration when starting your grow would be whether or not you’re growing outdoors, indoors or if you’re considering a hydroponic setup. If growing indoors how much space do you have to work with. If you’re growing in a smaller tent space an indica might be a better choice as they tend to be a shorter and bushier plant whereas sativas tend to be taller and branch out further. Other factors to take into consideration when planning your grow would be which grow medium you want to use whether that be soil, coco or hydro. For example when choosing soil you want to choose a soil that has good drainage, holds water and has good texture. Ingredients you ma notice in a good soil are Sphagnum Peat Moss, Perlite, Earthworm Castings, Crab Meal, Kelp, or Dolomite Lime. Some suggested brands are FoxFarm, Super Soil or Living Soil, Black Gold Mix #4 or Dark Matter. We sell all of these brands and they’re all fairly reasonably priced between $19.99 to $34.99.

As far as a hydroponic set up there are many different methods you can put together like a deep water culture system, ebb & flow or maybe a drip system. We have all of the tools you need at The Altered Native to help you put this together. Hydroponic systems can be a bit trickier but there are some benefits to growing this way!

You’ll also want to consider any lighting or nutrients you’ll need throughout your vegetative and flowering state. At The Altered Native we have everything you need to get you through from start to finish and our staff are all knowledgeable and here to answer any questions you may have!

Nutrients:

Making sure you have the right nutrients for ensure a successful grow is an important thing to consider. Here at The Altered Native we have everything you need to make sure your plant is strong and healthy from start to finish. When you come in looking for the right product for your plant all of our staff are able to answer any questions you may have in regards to the differences in each product and when you should be using each one. You’ll want to use different nutrients at different stages of your plant growth. For example during the early vegetative state you’ll want to make sure you pick up a good grow nutrient. Grow nutrients have a much higher concentration of Nitrogen which is needed during this time to help create new leaves and create energy through a process called photosynthesis where “Bloom” nutrients are higher in potassium and phosphorus. Potassium helps push water through the plants and phosphorus aids in flowering process. Using these nutrients during the right stages will help ensure a healthy/happy plant and have a positive impact on your yield when it comes time to harvest.

To summarize, get ready for your grow this year by coming to visit us at The Altered Nation and don’t forget to check out www.cbdnseed.com. You will have fun and learn with us while you’re here and we look forward to meeting you if we already haven’t!
